AGARTALA, February 10 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday skillfully avoided the slam of opposition for his failure as home minister to ensure law, justice and security of the common people of the state. He rather embarrassed his senior most and elder colleague in the cabinet health minister Badal Choudhury shouldering him the responsibility to reply all questions and issues related to home department.Sarkar is so smart, though he landed in Agartala from Delhi well-before the house started functioning on day, yet he remained absent till the discussion on thanks motion of Governor’s speech initiated by Parliamentary affairs minister Tapan Chakraborty. The allegation of Sarkar’s failure as home minister has once again proved in the house when he escaped the heat of his and his parties association in patronizing the Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) in Tripura. At the beginning of the business when opposition raised the issue of existence of insurgent outfits in the state, Choudhury faced embarrassment, as whatever written in the file by the home department was not sufficient to tackle the oppositions’ supplementary. As per file, Choudhury, stated in the house that there is no existence of insurgent outfit in Tripura but when opposition legislator Gopal Roy supplementing him with a question how kidnapping in eastern parts of the state is happening and NLFT is blamed for it, he was fumbling.

Finally, Roy said since there is no existence of insurgent outfit; so whatever is occurring in the state, is nothing but using NLFT brand by CPI-M cadres to terrorise the situation to achieve unethical political game ahead of ADC election.
Choudhury was speechless and an innocent smile in the face has approved the Roy’s statement. Badal Choudhury and his followers in both party and cabinet are in the red-face of Manik Sarkar over past few months when he directed Chief Secretary to register FIR against Bimal Chakraborty, close aide of Manik Sarkar in May last year for looting out more than Rs 50 Cr of MGNREGA fund.
Sarkar initially shifted him from finance portfolio and given it the Bhanu Lal Saha, another associate of Sarkar who is accused of sharing the looted money of MGNREGA fund in Bishalgarh.
Later, when opposition exposed the entire document of Bishalgarh scam and Manik’s association in that, team Manik started suspecting Badal and his followers in the party behind it and now they are living in the party with slavery of Sarkar’s sin.
Monday’s episode in assembly is also a part of it to pressurize Badal for all wrong-doing of Manik Sarkar and his corrupt team.
Badal Choudhury was further embarrassed when opposition sought clarification why the state government did not mention total amount which was cheated by three particular NBFCs in Tripura in time of sending the cases to CBI.
He could not satisfy them because Choudhury himself is well-aware of the association of Manik Sarkar and CPI-M party belongs to Manik’s lobby in patronizing and promoting cheat funds in the state over the years.
Opposition legislators alleged that the state government had sent 37 cases related to NBFC cheating in 2013 but in case of Rose Valley, Sarada Group of Finance and Waris Group of Industries, in the original FIR did not mention the amount of money and against 29 others the amount was shown very low to evade CBI investigation.
Naturally, CBI has taken only five cases of NBFCs where it found a sizable amount of money have been cheated. In 2014, when again CBI was requested to take up remaining 32 cases, there were also not mentioned the estimated amount cheated by the companies.
“It was a calculated move of the ruling left front government because name of many CPI-M leaders are involved in those NBFC deals. Moreover, in case of Rose Valley, Sarada Group of Finance and Waris Group of Industries Chief Minister Manik Sarkar himself was involved in the promotion of them in Tripura,” they alleged.
Rose Valley, having the largest NBFC network in the state has collected more than Rs 1000 crore taking license from Tripura government. Altogether about Rs 2500 core was cheated by 107 NBFCs including Rose Valley, Sarada Group and Waris but the state government has failed to take any action against them.
Well, Manik Sarkar by his authority and mischief escape the criticism of opposition in the house but will he be able to evade the interrogation in NBFC cases and Bimal Chakraborty’s case if CBI comes?
