AGARTALA, July 7 (TIWN): Responding to a question of a reporter asked in a press conference conducted by Minister Sushanta Chowdhury over name alteration of Agartala Town Hall as Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Town Hall, he asked, “What is the problem if Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s name is added with the Town Hall?”
The reporter asked him, instead of renaming Agartala Town Hall, why the government did not take the initiative to build a new one and name it after Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Replying to it, Chowdhury said, “What the government will do in the future, let it be up to the chief minister, but tell me what is the problem is his name being added?”
“Nobody is changing the name. It’s just an addition of a name to the existing one,” the Minister added.

“It was the communist period when the Town Hall was built. Why didn't the communists dedicate the Town Hall after anyone’s name?” Chowdhury asked.
“Rabindra Bhawan belonged to Sachin Debbarman. Why was the name kept after Rabindranath Tagore? Because it was dedicated in the name of the world-poetist,” said Chowdhury. “It is a matter of joy, instead.”
“If Town Hall were named after Lenin or Karl Marx, then they would not have any problem,” the Minister added.
"No Govt can make 100% people agree with a fact," he said. "You get 51% vote -- and you are in power and if you get 49% vote, you are in opposition."
