AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): Becoming a college professor has been the dream for many Master’s students who pursue a dream career of teaching graduate scholars in degree colleges and universities. Out of that passion, many students opt out of going for B.Ed-like degrees, which is now, in fact, emerging as a better career choice with maximum vacancies. As a result, it’s seen that meritorious students who studied P.hd, or qualified NET/SLET like UGC central exams often end up with a late-career opportunity, spending their youth as low-paid guest lecturers. And, that’s exactly happening with Tripura’s eligible candidates teaching in colleges for years.
In a press meet, guest lecturers appealed to the chief minister to look into the matter, just like, he is trying to develop the school education system.
“We do our work with full dedication. From administrative work to departmental, admission, and in all kinds of activities, we are participating. But at the end, the amount of wage we receive is so low and unfair. We request the government to start a monthly salary for us, as at this stage of life, we have to take care of our family members.”
“At the end of the day, when we are asked what we do in our profession, we really hesitate,” said Pralay Das, a young guest lecturer.
Das said as per the last Assembly data, around 400 guest lecturers are working across Tripura degree colleges.

He also said that after the new education policy, the pressure on the guest lecturers has increased so much that a single teacher is doing loads of work that is equivalent to five teachers’ jobs in colleges.
