AGARTALA, June 28 (TIWN): “Mobile phones have now emerged as more dangerous than AK-47 weapons. The AK-47 would shoot a person, but a cyber crime might drive the victim and even his or her entire family to a pathetic state,” Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Saturday at Cyber Crime Police Station inauguration program in AN Nagar, Agartala. “We are really worried about the worsening situation in this digital age. We have 112 helpline number and we also do have a national helpline 1930 – you can call at any number for help. It’s time to fight the shadow. So the technical expertise among police is also very important.”

“We are exposed to the internet all the time through our phones. This is such a medium that has no boundary and connects to anything. Criminals live in a dark world and take shelter in darkness to commit crimes, and that’s why they hide behind the screen to commit cyber crimes, where they are not physically available to be caught easily,” said Dr. Saha.

CM appealed to people that if any fraudulent activity happens on the internet, it has to be reported via 112 like helpline number immediately without delay.

“Sometimes the cyber criminals ask for OPT, and you sent OPT to them. They lure the victim through various methods, like they would say ‘your bank account is going to be closed’, acting as if they called from the bank. Sometimes educated people fall prey to such crimes. It’s such a dangerous situation today,” said CM.

“That’s why it is important to strengthen our policing system, not only physically but with digital skills too,” said CM.

“More facilities will be introduced to us, more bad elements will be added to create problems in our lives,” he said. “So to handle such crimes, proper training is very important among the police.”
