AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): A tragic road accident has claimed the life of Ashish Dey, a resident of Damdama Netaji Pally in South Tripura's Sabroom subdivision. Dey, an employee of the electricity department, succumbed to his injuries at GB Hospital in Agartala after fighting for his life for 12 days. The accident occurred on June 15. The accident was a head-on collision between two motorcycles near Damdama School.
The local community is demanding that the stretch of National Highway 8 passing through Damdama be declared an "accidental zone" due to the frequency of fatal accidents in the area.
The family, which is struggling to cope with the loss of its sole breadwinner, has appealed to the government for financial assistance and support for Dey's two children. The community has also demanded that the road be reconstructed and proper safety measures be implemented to prevent further accidents.
The incident has highlighted the need for urgent action to address the safety concerns on this stretch of highway, which has witnessed multiple fatal accidents in the past. The local administration and traffic police have been urged to take proactive measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
