AGRATALA, June 25 (TIWN): Tripura Government is observing the Constitution’s assassination day in Agartala Rabindra Bhawan in the presence of BJP MPs. Addressing the media, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said, “The emergency was nothing but a mechanism to continue the power and to uphold the chair.”

“It does not matter whether people are dying, but she (the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi) had to be in power,” said Dr. Saha.

“I am surprised, even recently her grandson Rahul Gandhi himself accepted that imposing emergency was a wrong decision,” he said. “Because he knows public mandates are against him.”

“But ultimately, people’s pressure forced Indira Gandhi to withdraw the emergency,” said CM at the event that was hashtagged with “Long Live Democracy.”
