BG conversion:Railway Minister of State, GM and Chief Engineer of NFR to arrive on 12 Feb

Agatala, Feb 8 (TIWN):Minister of State for Railway, Manoj Sinha is arriving here on 12 February to review the progress of broad gauge conversion rail track. He will be accompanied by General Manager of North East Frontier Railway (NFR) Ranjit Singh Virdhi and chief engineer ( construction) Harpal Singh.

It may be recalled that the NFR has set a target to bring Agartala in the country’s Broad Gauge (BG) rail network by March 2016.

The railway minister would coming to inspect the  on-going railway projects that Agartala is scheduled to get BG link by March 2016.
According to reports the BG conversion work from Lumding to Silchar is in full swing. The NFR has set a target to complete the project by March 2015. Rail service in between Lumding and Silchar was  suspended for six months starting from October 2014 to expedite the BG conversion work. One pair of train only runs on the  Karamganj  (Assam)-Agartala (Tripura) section.
The NFR authorities said work on the much-delayed Lumding-Silchar broad gauge project in Assam has so far made 80% progress and the much-waited mega block in the 201-km section  was taken up from October 1, last year. 
All kind of l hindrances, including problem of militancy and shortage of funds, which came in the way of the national project have been overcome. The forest and environment department had given necessary clearance at the Barail Hill range for the broad gauge project.
The mega block from Badarpur to Agartala, a distance of 224km, has been  taken up from October 1, 2015 . The mega blocks will continue for six months in each of the routes and after the block is over broad gauge will be completed.
Under the broad gauge project  agartala station will get three large platforms. While there will be three running lines, there will be two stabling lines.It may be noted that Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had earlier met  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and   urged him to expedite all the railway projects in the State.
