Massive smuggling across Sonamura sub division: Wire fencing brought no end to smuggling; Security plays no role

AGARTALA, February 7 (TIWN): Smuggling of contraband items and catles from Tripura to Bangladesh prevails across the Sonamura sub division even after fencing wire to 65 KM along the Indo-Bangla border under Sonamura sub division. The border gate remain open for the smugglers during the night hours making an easy path to smugglings, locals alleged. The concerned BSF jawans and the police allegedly plays a negative role in bringing the situation under control.

Amongst 76 KM along the Sonamura Indo-Bangla border area a wire fencing has been laid across 65 KM.
But this has brought no end for the smugglers to smuggle the contraband items and catles to the neighbouring country Bangldesh.
The concerned BSF security forces were allegedly making an easy pass for the local smugglers during the night hours.
The locals alleged that the concerned BSF security forces often keeps the border gate open for the smugglers.
However this has triggered a huge resentment among the locals of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s constituency area like – Kathalia Nirvoypur, Sada Tilla, Jamini tilla and others.
The locals further alleged that a hefly profitable business prevails at the areas with the concerned BSF security forces and the police personnel standing tall to extend their helping hands to the smugglers.
It was allegdd that during the night hours the concerned security forces opens the border gate and later mutulaise a profitable cash with the smugglers and later before the sunrise the securioty forces gives a pass to the vehicles loaded with catles and cows.
However it is mentionable here that the smuggling of contraband items comprising of cows and catles has now become a booming business along the Indo-Bangla border under Sonamura subdivision and other areas. Many of the smugglers have enterd the porous border have entered the trade and continue in it to make a hefty profit.
Beside,  the drug smuggling has increased along the India-Bangladeshborder while the vigil along the frontiers has been tightened to curb it.
Plantations of cannabis are done on a large scale in the interior and inaccessible areas of the border region. Since most of these plantations are tucked away in hills and forests, government agencies have a tough time to detect and destroy them.
According to officials, a large number of villagers in Tripura cultivate cannabis and smuggle it to Bangladesh to earn money. There is a huge demand for cannabis in Bangladesh, and Tripura plays a key role in meeting this demand.
It is to be recalled here that India and Bangladesh recently decided to conduct joint patrolling along the Indo-Bangla Border by BSF and BGB in Tripura to check cross-border movement of Indian insurgents, smuggling of nacrotics and trans-border crime.The decision was taken during the two-day Indo-Bangla Deputy Commissioner level meeting which concluded recently.  

While the Indian side raised issues about the presence of insurgents, the Bangladesh side raised the issues of narcotics smuggling in a joint statement signed by both the countries.They agreed for joint patrolling by BSF and BGB and Bangladesh security would swung into action if insurgents were found to be using their soil.
