AGARTALA, Dec 7 (TIWN): Ahead of Durga puja, centering puja donations demanded by a club, heavy violence erupted in Kadamtala after a clash between two groups. To control the violence, police opened fire which allegedly killed a local Alfeshani Ahmed, according to a complaint of the family. At that time, the victim's family was assured to be compensated with Rs. 4 lakh and a government job to be given to the victim’s widow but so far the promise could not be fulfilled by the government.
The victim's family, accompanied by opposition CPIM(L) members visited the Human Rights Commission office in Agartala and sought justice.
“SP North Bhanupada Chakraborty assured me of the compensations and government job, stating that what happened can’t be reversed,” said widow Sapna Begum.
CPIM(L) party representative said, “It is eyewitnessed that the victim died in police firing but now, it is claimed that police only opened fire in the air and he died out of miscreants’ firing. So we demand a judicial probe of the incident, which would bring out the truth.”
