AGARTALA, Sep 23 (TIWN): Opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury visited Jirania, Poitrabari, and met the Muslim community’s people whose houses were set to fire centering a Kali idol’s damage.
The cause behind the Kali temple’s damage is unknown. Some say it’s because of natural issues related to flood and some say, provocation but nobody has any proof who is behind this. A similar case happened in Udaipur but locals caught the culprit named Joy Datta, a Hindu behind it. However, if both cases are related or not, a police investigation would bring it out.
But the Jirania incident triggered heavy violence as a group of people set Muslim community’s houses on fire. When the police arrested, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury (who is the local MLA) came forward to release the accused persons.
In this condition, opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury along with other CPI-M leaders visited Poitrabari and condemned the incident.
“Police who can not arrest the culprits, are heavy on people like us, who try to help such people,” said Chowdhury.
No compensation was announced by the State Govt and no Minister, MLA, or leader from the BJP visited the suffered area.
Jitendra Chowdhury said, the people who are behind this crime are close to the ruling party.
