AGARTALA, Aug 6 (TIWN): Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha told media on Tuesday, the trade that is being affected with Bangladesh is just temporary, reminding sharply how Tripura supplies electricity to Bangladesh.
The statement came after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her Prime Minister’s post and fled Bangladesh on Monday.
CM in his first reaction said, he would not comment anything about India-Bangladesh relation and the overall situation until the Govt of India takes any final decision, but he said, he is confident that the trade will not be affected at all reminding how Bangladesh is dependent upon Tripura for power connectivity.
It can be mentioned here that Bangladesh and India are decades-old trade partners. Tripura imports various things from Bangladesh including famous Hilsa fish. In fact Tripura flights fly over Bangladesh to reach West Bengal state. but right now the trade is suspended over land but CM Dr. Manik Saha said, it is temporary.
He also expressed concerns over the attacks on Hindu temples but praised the Muslim community who are protecting Hindu temples and other assets there.
Overall Dr. Saha is hopeful about the trade future between the two countries.
