AGARTALA, May 26 (TIWN): An urgent press meeting was organized by Tripura Revenue Department along with Disaster Management, and Airport Authority departments to alert the people about the possible consequences of the storm, with an appeal to take precautions during the two days’ cyclonic storm. Educational institutions including Anganwadi centers have been shut down due to the storm and flight services are halted. The cyclonic storm would cause excessive rain in various parts of the state along with heavy thunderstorms. The government has advised common men to avoid going outside during the period that starts from today midnight. The airport authority asked the passengers to contact the airlines before they would start their journey to Agartala MBB Airport to avoid the hassle. "Check the status with your Airline before reaching the Airport," said Tripura Revenue Department secretary Brijesh Pandey.
"There is nothing to be panicked about, as it is not the first ever such a storm in the state. We are fully prepared and forces are deployed. But we need common men's cooperation too in this emergency time. Precautions are very important to be followed especially in the fishing sector," he said.
"Heavy rainfall, storm, and lightning along with heavy speed winds at 40 to 60 kmph would be experienced. The emergency operations remain active 24X7. A meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary, DGP and other officials today and the decisions were taken," Pandey said.
The Revenue Department Secretary further requested fishermen to stay away from fishing and each citizen in Tripura to avoid going out as lightning might be harmful.
"Schools and educational institutions are already closed but the institutions which are not closed will be asked to be closed," he added.
He informed food sufficiency exists in the state and nothing to worry about these issues.
