Mizo habitants of Jampui Hills likely to visit Governor demanding separate ADC

AGARTALA, February 2 (TIWN): Ahead of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, adding more woes to the CPI-M, delegates of the habitants belong to Mizo community residing at Jampui Hills are likely to visit Tripura Governor- PB Acharya soon demanding separate ADC.Amid several problems, they adopted the demand for separate ADC in a convention recently held at Jampui Hill, said a local source.According to the source, orange farming is the main livelihoods of over 14000 people belong to Mizo community residing at Jampui Hills. Due to some natural problems, they are now unable to produce that much of orange in Jampui Hills, said the source. As a result, the major section of habitants belong to Mizo community are now moved to other works for livelihood which are not suitable for them, added the source.

“The present situation also affecting their economic condition badly”, the source said.Despite several pleas, the Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is maintaining silence over the issue, added the source. As a result, a delegation of Jampui Hills Mizo Committee decided to meet the Governor PB Acharya soon. During the visit, the delegation would demand for setting up separate ADC, added the local source.It is worthy to mention here, Jampui Hills is located in the north eastern part of Tripura bordering the state Mizoram in the east. 

Jampui Hills refers to the hill range that stretch from North to South and the average altitude of the hill range is approximately 1000 metres from sea level. There are 10 small villages in Jampui hills and most of the habitants are the Mizo community.

The villages are Vaisam, Hmawngchuan,Hmunpui, Tlaksih, Vanghmun, Behliangchhip, Bangla Zion, Tlangsang, Sabual and Phuldungsei and Vanghmun is the headquarters of Jampui R.D Block. Jampui Hills was occupied by the Mizo people in the 16th century. Slowly they migrated westwards and entered into the interior part of Tripura and they were then called "Kuki" by the Tripuris. Descendants of these tribes are now called Halam community.
