Uttarakhand Education Minister visits Tripura: “No detention” policy lets quality education down, claims Minister; TET mandatory for teachers

AGARTALA, February 1 (TIWN): Uttarakhand Education Minister Mantriprasad Naithani arrived here in Tripura on Saturday to attend a national level workshop at Agartala Pragna Bhawan. Minister Naithani today talking to the media at Agartala State guest house has called for a better education system in the national forum. Adding to that, he said that a meeting will be held on February 7th or 8th at New Delhi, where the Chief Ministers of all the states of the country were invited. The meeting will be held to focus the line in action on education system.Talking to the media persons here at the state Guest house the Uttarakhand Education Minister Mantriprasad Naithani laying a stress on the “No Detention Policy” framed by the HRD Ministry of the previous govt. said that the so called ‘No Detention Policy’ had reduced the standards of education in the country. Demanding the re-introduction of the pass-fail system, Minister Naithani said that the education system had been plagued by short-sighted policies formed by the leaders and was highly discriminatory in nature.

He said that the policy has brought no chance for the students as well as for the teachers to think bold in regard of the school education. 

Later sideline ofther issue of the centrally sponsored mid day meal issue, Education Minister of Uttarakhand Mantriprasad Naithani laid a stress for a separate recruitment of the mid day meal staffs in the school. He said that recently the mid day meal scheme sponsored by the previous govt. in the center has let the quality education in the schools down. “It has been noticed that since after the implementation of the mid day meal scheme across the country, the teachers in the school were found to be engaged on cooking the mid day meal for the students resulting the education system to fall down”, said the Minister. “Therefore the mid day meal scheme should be restored”, Minister added.
Minister Naithani further added that the Teacher Eligibility Tests should be mandatorily implemented at every state to boost up the education system and for better learning of the students. He said, “Teachers should be trained well before letting them induct in job and their jobs should be made permanent and no adhoc system should be followed”. Later briefing the current status of the education in Uttarakhand he said that every teacher in the state has been recruited and will be recruited with no adhoc system but on a regular basis. And a consolidated salary is also being provided to the teachers, said Minister Naithani.
However, later thanking the Tripura govt. today for extending its helping hand towards the financial sector of the state Uttarakhand during the flood, Education Minister Mantriprasad Naithani expressed his gratitude for the current status of the education system here in the state Tripura. He said “I am happy to see Tripura holding 96% literacy and 86% literacy among the girls”. Minister Naithani also invited Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to join Chardham Yatra at Uttarakhand.
During his arrival here in Tripura on Saturday Education Minister of Uttarakhand had courtesy meeting with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Tripura education Minister Tapan Chakroborty.
