KAMALPUR, JAN. 30 (TIWN): The golden regime (!) of present State government seemed to gift us with a competition of corruption among the government departments. And in this competition, the Water Resource Kamalpur Division advanced a giant stride forward by giving the corrupt contractor upper hand. The corruption and embezzlement got unearthed in the construction of irrigation canal at Kaimaichara under this subdivision.

In the present fiscal, the department has initiated to construct an irrigation canal at Kaimaichara replacing the old one.

The work of almost Rs. 8, 00, 000 rupees was entitled to contractor Dipankar Choudhury and others.

According to the government rule, the contractor have to surrender the older bricks to the department at ‘as is where is’ condition. Moreover, the new canal should be constructed with class 1 bricks. But the contractors duo, are selling the bricks at a rate of 6 rupees per piece and the authority is also remained mere onlooker in the case.

Again, despite of using class 1 bricks, the contractors are using lowest quality bricks to construct the canal. As a result, they are doubling their profits illegally. But the authority never supervises the job.

The locales several times knocked the authority for remedy but in vain.
