But soon after the marriage Manojit started torturing her physically and mentally demanding Dowry. On 12^th April, 2017 at night Manojit killed Chayanika Das by suffocating her with a pillow when she was sleeping.

Victim’s family filed a case, ST8 2018 at Khowai PS under Section- 302, 498 of IPC. Case was filed against three named Manojit Sutradhar, Indrajit Sutradhar and Rina Sutradhar (Mother).

After taking testimony of 18 witnesses and forensic report the accused husband Manojit Sutradhar sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 and the other 2 accused were released.
