Agartala, Jan 30 (TIWN):Safety of women continues to be a serious concern here. Campaigns against atrocities on women have not helped in reducing the number of crimes reported against women in the state.
Seems like assurance of chief minister Manik Sarkar who holds the home department, campaigns and programmes have proved futile.

It could do nothing to bring down incidents of rape, molestation and other anti-women activities. The number of cases related to various atrocities against women - including rape, molestation and domestic violence – are increasingly at alarming rate. National Crime Bureau reports that the state ranks second in the country on crime against women.

According to police sources, a house wife was abducted from Mauripur Bus stand at Birchandra Manu of Tripura’s South district. The miscreants after abducting took her in forest where she was allegedly raped for three days.  A case was registered under section of IPC 376 (D), 506 and 34 at Baikhora police station by the victim after fleeing from the clutches of the miscreants.   Only one miscreants was identified by the victim namely Surjit Mog of Kanchannagar area.

Meanwhile another report of gang rape at Chanban in  Udaipur of   Gomati district has given rise to communal tension. A case was registered under IPC 417, 376(N) against Naru Dey. The family of the victim claimed that Naru raped the victim after promising her    of marriage, later declined as she is Muslim. The accused is reported to be absconding.
