AGARTALA, Feb 24 (TIWN): Tripura Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Saturday visited various areas in Ambassa and talked to the locals to inspect what is the status of solar energy uses in the state. Talking to the media, Minister Ratan Lal Nath said, “Often journalists say that we only preach but what’s the status in reality? To answer their queries, I have reached here to check the functionality of the solar-like renewal energy.” The Minister was talking to the media at Kamalachara block in Ambassa.
“The main target of the visit was on behalf of Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), we want to see how with solar power, we can enable farmers to get water for irrigation. As you know, Tripura is in the No-1 position in PM Kusum scheme. 2116 families were provided with PM Kusum scheme in the last 6 years. The owner is giving Rs. 15,000 and the state, and central government are giving Rs. 2 lakhs. More 3000 schemes are on plan,” said Ratan Lal Nath.
“But to inspect whether this project is implemented properly or not, it needs to be checked. That’s why the visit was made,” added Ratan Lal Nath.
“We are now also providing electricity through microgate where electricity is not available. Again, in the case of drinking water, with solar power we have successfully provided drinking water in deep ADC areas,” said Nath.
“Electricity cost is going high. We will install solar machines across the state. First, it will be installed in Govt offices and then house to house. It will drastically reduce the electricity bills,” said the Minister.
He further added, that in Tripura wind energy is supportive but solar energy is the best option and Govt is planning to generate 500 MW electricity by 2030. Right now, Tripura needs 362 MW of electricity.
