AGARTALA, Feb 24 (TIWN): After several hours of continuous rain, the water flow of Khowai River has increased and the old dam of Chakmaghat has become weak.

The people are afraid of the danger that the switch gate will break and the water of Khowai River will flow towards Teliamura city at any time.

The incident reported at Chakmaghat barrage in Teliamura sub-division.

Although the rain has stopped but in the monsoon once again, it might be an issue.

Gate number six of the seven iron switch gates of the Chakmaghat dam was damaged due to excessive water flow. The entire barrage was shaking due to the extreme water flow in the other six gates at an excessive speed, according to the local people. The common people of the area, while expressing fear said that if initiatives are not taken to repair Gate No. 6 then a major accident may happen anytime.

Meanwhile, according to local sources, gate number six of this dam was repaired once 12 years ago. But it was alleged that no serious work was done to repair this dam. As a result, Gate No. 6 of Chakmaghat Dam is currently in a critical condition.
