AGARTALA, Jan 14 (TIWN): Ahead of Makar Sankranti, businessmen have started selling sweet items as Makar Sankranti demands various traditional sweet items. Talking to a businessman in Agartala he said, “Selling is going okay but right now people avoid sweet items, because of health consciousness. So, it’s expected that public excitement either for traditional ‘pitha’ or ‘horir loot’ is not the same as before. So in this condition, moderate business is fine for us”.
On being asked, how the prices of commodities are, he said, prices are just like every year. However, expectedly, this year the business may see profits as a part of constant rise in annual profit since Covid-19 vanished.
Makar Sankranti is held in winter season’s ending where various food items with rice powder are made named ‘pitha’. Also there are other rituals such as ‘Burir Ghor’, ‘Alpona’ etc.
