AGARTALA, Nov 28 (TIWN): With the increasing fire accidents, opposition leader Animesh expressed concerns. While visiting Battala market, the MLA referred Udaipur’s one of the market’s fire accident saying, “Power Department has an important role to play in market areas and they must check the connections from time to time”. Animesh Debbarma demanded immediate relief funds for the affected businessmen and rehabilitation package. He also requested the Govt that the market should be reconstructed and the design must be shown to the opposition as fire safety and various issues are related. Thousands of stakeholders were affected due to the devastating fire accident in Battala.
Over 250 shops were gutted in the fire incident on Sunday late night. Animesh Debbarma predicted at least 140 – 150 shops were directly affected and lost everything.
“If the Govt does not take any immediate action to rehabilitate them, then this issue will heat up Assembly”, said Debbarma.
He also requested the Govt that the market should be reconstructed and the design must be shown to the opposition as fire safety and various issues are related.
“Even the fire brigade vehicles could not enter for fire extinguishing. We demand more scientific constructions in our market areas”, said Debbarma.
After the incident, Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday visited the area, and assured that the State Govt would provide full support to the businessmen. “We will make sure that the businessmen can start their business once again and immediately. I appreciate the Fire Brigade staff for their efforts and urgent action; otherwise, the fire could have spread to more and burned various parts of the city”, said CM.
