AGARTALA, Aug 12 (TIWN): Addressing the convention of Assembly of Journalists, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday took a dig at the regime before him that put statewide journalists into trouble. Although, the regime belonged to Ex-CM Biplab Deb, who was replaced on May, 2022 by CM Manik Saha, but Manik Saha added, that the period can not be totally unlinked from the Communist regime. According to Manik Saha it turned into a cancer since Communist era which was reflected in results in last few years. The statement came after a journalist commented that before CM Manik Saha had taken the charge attacks on journalists went to peak where journalists had to face physical attacks, police harassments and lots of other issues.
“It’s unthinkable. Nobody in history could suppress journalists and nobody can in future. One had to understand that. Media’s job is not only to praise the Govt but it’s media which show the mirror, find faults of the Govt and then we take action based on those reports. News reporting can not be all positive in support of Govt but the reports must be feedback so that Govt can work accordingly”, said CM.
During Biplab Deb’s tenure as CM many newspapers, media houses were shutdown, journalists faced physical attacks, police pressure and also in broad daylight newspaper offices were burnt. As per ground report, no political attacks took place on journalists since Manik Saha took the charge as CM.
