City bus services: 24 more new buses to be launched soon

Agartala, January 26 (TIWN): In order to revamp the collapsed city bus services in Capital City Agartala with existing 11 city buses, 24 new city buses are likely to be launched very soon.

At the time when the existing 11 city buses are lying in miserable condition at Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT), Chandrapur, the newly appointed Managing Director (MD) of Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) has initiated to introduce more 24 new buses to improve city bus services, said a highly placed source of Transport Department.

According to the source, the TRTC is paying no attention to repair the existing buses lying in very poor condition, which were purchased few years back with a high price to deliver a quality bus service in capital city.

The source further said, of the total 24 city buses, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) would sponsor 10 buses by making a tie up with Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC). As many as 9 buses will be purchased with the assistance of Bank loan while the state government has already sanctioned 5 buses in a recent past, said the source.

Earlier, in an affidavit to the High Court of Tripura, the state government has informed that an order to purchase 100 news city busses have already been sanctioned while the new buses will become in service by June 30, 2015, added the source.

Based on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Arpan, a social organization, the High Court of Tripura ordered the state government to arrange 100 city buses in the capital city, last year, said the source.

At last, the source said, “With the launching of 24 new city busses, the passengers of different parts of the city will get relief from the suffering of several problems created by a section of auto-rickshaw drivers led by CITU.”
