Security beefed up for R’Day celebration in Tripura: Extra manpower deployed, says IGP

AGARTALA, January 24 (TIWN): Security has been beefed up across Tripura ahead of the celebration of 66th Republic Day to restrict any untoward incident. Alert has been sounded along the 856-km-long porous state border to keep the Republic Day celebrations peaceful, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nepal Das today.“Extra man power has been deployed in all vulnerable areas of the state in order to prevent any attempt to sabotage the Republic Day celebrations by any militant groups” said IGP Nepal Das. Talking to TIWN today Das said that the border areas have been put on high alert with the TSR and BSF Jawans joint stand in operation. Necessary arrangement has been made for the patrolling across the state ahead of the Republic day celebration, said Das. "All police stations and check posts along the Indo-Bangla international border and Agartala Airport were put under maximum alert," Nepal Das said. Beside the CCTV cameras installed at the city has also been playing a major role detecting untoward incidents.

Adding to that he said the patrolling as well as the joint operation by the TSR and the BSF Jawans will continue even after January 26th.

"Deployment of security forces has been made at railway stations, motor stands, markets and crowded places.

Patrolling has been intensified in the highways and insurgency-hit remote areas," Das told TIWN. Dog squads and bomb squads were pressed into service in all towns.

The city police is conducting regular checking in the vehicles entering into the towns and hotels are also under observation of the security forces, he said.

The state police is in constant touch with BSF posted in border areas, who have also intensified their vigil and stepped up patrolling so that no one could sneak into the Indian territory from other side of the border, Das said.

However later asked about the security of the Assam Rifles ground where the main programmed will be staged on January 26, Das said that on the very day of the Republic Day celebration the entire ground comes under the constsnt vigilance of the security personnel. Beside he said that no information has been received yet about any kind of threat to the R’Day celebration here in Tripura.
