Security on high alert in the capital city ahead of Republic day celebration

AGARTALA, January 24 (TIWN): Security has been beefed up in Tripura to ward off any untoward incident in the run up to Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The Tripura Police along with the BSF, TSR, CRPF personnel have been deployed in all sensitive areas and are on the vigil in all vulnerable areas of the state in order to prevent any attempt to sabotage the Republic Day celebrations by any militant groups. Dog squads and bomb squads were pressed into action from today. Sniffers were seen check in operation across the state and the public places especially.Police and Intelligence agencies in the state not taking any chances ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in the wake of terror threats from banned militant outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), said police high police officials. According to the high officials of the police the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recently issued alert for all NER states ahead of the Republic Day.

The alert came shortly after the recent incident at Assam.Asked about special measures adopted to tackle the situation, the official said that all border areas with neighbouring Bangladesh were put under tight vigil. “We have asked BSF authorities to tighten security in the border. The contingent of CRPF deployed in the state was alerted as well”, he said.

The state police had started standard precautionary measures in urban and rural areas. “We have started checking and frisking vehicles in the urban areas. Foot patrols and mobile patrols were increased in the rural areas; focus was laid on distant villages.Deployment of security forces have been made at railway stations, motor stands, markets and crowded places.  A standard alert was sounded across all police stations of the state.

Security has been beefed up across Tripura and an alert has been sounded along the 856-km-long porous international border to maintain peace during the Republic Day celebrations.also to thwart any kind of untoward incident following a directive from the Centre. With high threat perception of sabotage hovering over airports, the state is seeing tight security arrangements ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.
