Agartala, January 16 (TIWN): To start the trial into multi-crore MGNREGA scam of Bishalghar RD block, the Addl. District and Sessions Court, West district today conducted a commit session. Among 9 surrendered or arrested persons into this sensitive case, 8 accused persons appeared before the Court today, said a police official. On the other hand, the High Court of Tripura Wednesday granted conditional bail to Tushar Kanti Sen (Panchayat Secretary) who was earlier arrested for his involvement in this case, he said.
According to police, the preliminary investigation has proved misappropriation of Rs 50000 against Tushar and he has also admitted the same. Already Tushar has spent 39 days in police custody and judicial custody. As a result, the High Court of Tripura granted conditional bail to Tushar, said police.
After the completion of preliminary investigation, the investigation officer (IO) framed the charges showing financial irregularities of Rs. 1.4 crore at Bishalghar RD Block and submitted the 1350-page partial charge-sheet before the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) on January 11. After the submission of first phase charge-sheet, the SDJM Court forwarded it to Addl. District and Sessions Court on January 12 for further hearing, said police.
Though, the police submitted partial charge-sheet into multi-crore scam MGNREGA scam but of the total 12 FIR named persons, two more accused persons- Debprasad Nandi (GRS) and Mita Malakar (Junior Engineer) are still at large. According to police, Debprasad fled away to Bramanbaria in Bangladesh to evade arrest after misappropriating huge funds under MGNREGA at Bishalghar RD block.
At present, the scamster and then BDO- Bimal Chakraborty, Chayan Nandi (Technical Assistant), Kishore Banik (Technical Assistant), Nibash Pal (Jr. Mechanical Engineer), Partha Sarkar (Jr. Mechanical Engineer), Goutam Pal (Junior Technician), Shayamal Debbarma (GRS), Sarada Debbarma (GRS) and Subir Ukil (Work Assistant) are behind the bars.
