KAMALPUR, JAN. 16, (TIWN): The vibrant popularity of e-books or other sophisticated gadgets fails to curtail the hobby of book reading even among the youths. The fast foods and fusion foods cannot put a restrain to the tastes of traditional Indian foods. Likewise, the tremendous spread of modern Indi-pop, hip-hop or jazz fails to overcome the appeal and eternity of traditional Indian folk music. On the day of Makar Sankranti, the people from all strata of the society and of every age group prove it once more here, in Dhalai district.
Many people, especially the leftist rulers and so-called self styled saviors of the State, often demand that, it is for them that the state succeeds to retain its tradition and culture. They further claim that, all the modernism and modern culture is product of capitalism and are aimed at destroying the ethnicity of India or more clearly of the state. But the commoners being far away from all these political claims and games, once again prove that, tradition are deep rooted in our spirit, which need not any special care or so-called protection.
On the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti, according to the rituals the people from different locality of this subdivision roam from house to house with songs praying to the almighty for the welfare of the mass. Srichaitnya introduced this system of mass praying during the regime of Hussain Shah to retain unity and still today this strong tradition is vibrant among us. No matter, this is no more our daily practice, according to our modern lifestyle. But on the occasion of Makar Sankranti all prove that, tradition is tradition and none can abolish it.
