AGARTALA, Nov 16 (TIWN): On Wednesday, an odd scenario was witnessed when male police officials were unnecessarily entering in the crowd to stop the gathering of CPI-M’s women wing amid huge numbers of female constables were present on the spot. Such activities of the male police officials sometimes created an uncomfortable situation for the lady police constables. CPI-M’s women wing members were agitating against the rape incidents, protesting against rising crime against women statewide where Minister Bhagaban Das’s son Chandrashekhar Das’s name also came out. Why not all the culprits were arrested ? With this question, CPI-M women’s wing organized a protest in front of police headquarters but police stopped the rally and displayed brutality against the women activists.
Male police were used against the women agitators, microphone’s wire was disconnected.
Many CPI-M workers were injured and one of them was bleeding, and hospitalized.
After the incident, CPI-M agitators sat in protest in front of Police headquarter.
Addressing media, CPI-M senior leader Panchalai Bhattacharjee condemned the incident and police brutality. Bhattacharjee said, “If the microphone is not allowed to be used, how will women raise their voice ? How brutal it is that a woman was left bleeding by police. There are lots of women police officials but why the male police were used for force ?”
