AGARTALA, Aug 2 (TIWN): Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath's tall claims on Tax-Benefits in Road Maintenance under BJP Govt turned into a JUMLA. After over 4.5 years of tax rise, various roads are in miserable shape whereas ongoing projects suffer from poor quality of construction. A road in Belonia which was started by sacked CM Biplab Deb during his CM tenure, has collapsed within less than a year. Various alleged corruptions including Lighthouse project are under the scanner which was single-handedly maintained by Biplab Deb during when he was the CM and holding the PWD. The foundation stone of the road work at Gauranga Bazar, Belonia was laid by Biplab Deb in 2021, but due to the poor quality of construction, the road was in collapsed stage. Under Biplab Deb in most projects he allegedly appointed his own people and sometimes from other states, contractors were invited where his corrupt coteries were also involved. During his tenure Biplab Deb indulged in multiple scams including liquor license distribution scam.
Centering such roadways, heavy protest rows emerged in various places in the state of Tripura due to PWD Dept’s failure to maintain the roads which are allegedly running out of artificial fund crisis amid in 2018, July month months after BJP won Tripura Assembly Election, new Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced to increase VAT and impose cess claiming that it will be used for regular road maintenance which to help in the vehicle’s durability, but there is no sign of outcome of the Minister’s claim and how far tax collection was increased in the sector and how much was utilized, it is a matter of clarification which yet to be declared from the Govt side.
Ambulances were stranded for hours on National Highways due to bad conditions of roads.
