TIWN April 15, 2022

AGARTALA, April 15 (TIWN): Agartala sweet shops had witnessed mass demands of sweets on Friday on the occasion Pohela Boishakh, the new year in Bengali calendar. In this Northeast hilly state Tripura, both the Bengali and Indigenous Tiprasa communities celebrate their own New Years and both have own rich cultures and traditions. Pohela Boishakh is the festival to celebrate with family where "sweet exchange" is a culture to be observed between neighbours and relatives. Sweet Curd (Misti Doi) is an obvious thing along with Rosogolla (a traditional sweet). Skyrocketing prices of food items were observed since the morning in Agartala non-veg markets. Amid high rates of each item, there was no pause in the selling and business as after all it's Pohela Baishakh, a day dedicated for Bengali foodies.
Thus centering this Pohela Boisakh public rushed to the sweet shops to mark the festival's marketing. In meat and fish markets also similar crowds were observed. Schools, Colleges, Offices remain close on this festival. Long rows were observed in front of sweet shops as social distance was made menadatory.
