NFR all set to add one more train in Agartala-Karimganj route by January

Agartala, January 5 (TIWN): With the raising demands of public to extend train services and in order to make the passengers feel comfortable during journey, the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) is all set to run another passenger train in Agartala-Karimganj route by January, an official source confirmed today. Till date a single train comprising 10 compartments in Agartala-Karimganj route remained in service since October 15 due to mega block works.

According to the source, Agartala Railway Station drew huge gathering of passengers during air ticket crisis and due to poor bus services over past two months. A major section of passengers had to travel outside of the state by train in standing position due to lack of seats in ten compartments during the period. The passengers are still facing a challenging rail service in Tripura. At such situation the ministry is likely to extend railway services by adding one more passenger train by this month in Agartala-Karimganj route during the mega block works, the source added.

It is worthy to mention here; the North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) has started BG conversion from Lumding to Silchar in the first phase from October 01. It will take more than one year to complete the conversion tasks. The next phase of conversion from Badarpur to Agartala will take place after the completion of first phase’s BG conversion.  

On the other hand, the conversion for Meter-gauge line into broad-gauge (Mega block) has been continuing in full swing by the North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) at Lumding and Barrack Valley. According to departmental sources, the NFR has deployed more than 3000 workers to complete the conversion work at earliest. Thereafter the work for convert the meter gauge line into broad gauge will be started in the second phase.
