AGARTALA, January 5 (TIWN): While the Police Department is claiming that insurgency movements are under control in Tripura, the statistic shows that about 8 cases of extremist incidents were reported in the state and a total of 8 persons were abducted across the state during last year. According to the statistic, Amrit Das, who was abducted from MK Para on December 11, 2014, is still remained in the captivity of extremists in Bangladesh.Even, about 147 km international border with Bangladesh is still remained unfenced reportedly across the state as the extremists targeted the security forces guarding the border and involved in protection at those bordering areas. The data indicates that the banned outfits are still campaigning in state actively even after presence of 245 BSF BOPs the state. In a recent official statement on Sunday at Police head, DGP K. Nagraj claimed that total numbers of crime against women were reduced in Tripura during last year but the statistic reveals that police department has thousand miles to go for bringing the crimes against women at zero as many girls right from 5 years are being raped and housewives are being tortured for dowry continuously in Tripura.

Replying a question on women safety, DGP yesterday said, “After the introduction of Women Helpline 1091, crime against women is significantly reduced in Tripura. Altogether 4 police stations exist in the state at present and recently 300 women constables were recruited while 150 more women constables will be recruited soon for the security of women.”

Being asked about cyber crime, “The number of cyber crimes in our state is marginal; it may bring new challenges before the police in coming days. Keeping this point in mind, police department is adopting necessary steps and also gearing up itself to meet the new challenges by introducing advanced training to the police officers”, DGP added.

Reportedly, one of the major problems being faced by the police department in state is circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). Explaining the success on this issue, DGP further said, “A total of Rs. 1, 65, 150 was seized and seven persons were arrested and altogether 9 cases were registered in this connection across the state during last year.”
