Agartala, January 4 (TIWN): The conviction rate into various cases has been increased by 22.51 percent in Tripura while the overall crime rate has been reduced by 12 percent in last year comparing to 2013, said Director General of Police (DGP)- K. Nagraj in a press conference at Police Head Quarter, here today.

“Extremism is under control in Tripura. We cannot comment that the insurgency movements in Tripura are completely cracked but no militant camps exist in the state. But a few of the banned outfits like NLFT and ATTF are still operating activities from Bangladesh. Following the issue, the security forces of Bangladesh including Bangladesh Army, RAB and BGB are conducting different anti-insurgency drives”, said DGP.

“We are making relentless efforts to root out the insurgency movements across the state especially in the Indo-Bangla bordering areas. Only 8 cases of militancy incidents were reported in 2014 while in 2013 the number was 9. It indicates that, insurgent extremism has been contained in Tripura during 2014”, he said.

Referring cyber crimes, he further stated that the number of cyber crimes related issues is very less in Tripura. However, police are on the race to bring the cyber crime related issues at zero, he added.

“In the year 2014, altogether 172 precious lives were lost in road accidents while a total of 219 persons died in the year 2013. In most of the bike accident cases, investigation revealed that maximum numbers of death incidents were occurred due to not wearing helmet and not fastening the helmet properly”, said DGP.

Addressing the press conference, DGP said, “crime figures relating to various offences other than extremism indicates an significant improvement in police functioning in dealing with law and order, investigation, crime against women and road traffic accidents. Though there is an overall improvement in prevention and detection of crime, crime against women and road accidents still appears to be a matter of concern.”

The prime motive of the press meet was to highlight the performance of Police Department for the year 2014. At last, DGP informed that to display the skills of band, a composite Band Show by Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, BSF and Tripura Police will be organized at AD Nagar Police ground on tomorrow
