AGARTALA, January 4 (TIWN): People say doctors take the second position after God and should keep faith on doctors like we keep faith on God. But the duty of a section of doctors here in our state Tripura figures out the real fact and the sufferings of the patients. Another patient of Agartala GB pant Hospital died today allegedly due to the negligence of the doctors. The victim was identified as Alpana Chakroborty (52) of Agartala Ramnagar area.

She was supposed to undergo eye operation on January 3. The patient party alleged that the negligence of the doctors has lead Alpana to die.

The incident occurred on Sunday noon at around 3:30, when one sugar patient Alpana Chakroborty brethes her last. Allegation has been raised against senior doctor of Agartala GB Pant Hospital Dr. Swapan Sarkar (Registrar). The victim Alpana’s husband alleged that she was supposed to undergo eye operation on January 3 as per the doctor’s prescription, but Dr. Swapan sarkar opposed to operate her on the very day as health condition got deteriorated. Later she was admitted to medicine ward and was prescribed to undergo blood test, only after which she would be fit for the operation. The doctor also asked the patient party to place the test report soon.

Accordingly the patient underwent tests but the pathology delayed to give the report to the patient party. It was alleged that after the report was placed with Dr. Swapan Sarkar, he opposed to see the report saying that his duty is over. But allegedly inspite of several requests to have a look of the report Sarkar asked the patient party to place the report with another junior doctor who will join the next shift, alleged the patient party. And later accordingly when it was placed with another junior doctor he has asked for another tests of the patient.

But such a negligence of the concerned doctors has ultimately lead Alpana Chakroborty to breath her last. Alpana survived with her two daughters died in Sunday noon at around 4:00.

Besides, it was also alleged that when Alpana was taken to the GB Hospital for her surgery on January 3, she had to face several hurdles as there were no stretchers, nor a lift facility to climb up to the 3rdfloor. Therefore she had to climb the floor on foot and this is the reason why her health condition got deteriorated before her operation, alleged victim’s husband.

However later when asked about the matter Health minister Badal Chowdhury today talking to TIWN said that he is unknown of the case that occurred today, but he will try to know the fact soon.

It is to be mentioned there that several such incidents had already occurred at Agartala GB Pant hospital where a massive negligence of the doctors came under the limelight. And this now seems to be standing tall again. It is also mentionable here that recently Health Minister Badal Chowdhury addressing a mass gathering urged the people of the state to keep faith on the Tripura doctors, and there is no need to move abroad for treatment. He also said that the state Tripura is now equipped with all modernized medical technology along with enough doctors and the nurses. But such an incidents where patients has to fall prey into the doctor’s negligence clearly figures out the fact and the current status of the govt. run Agartala GB Pant hospital.
