Agartala, January 3 (TIWN): The foreign powers are trying to dismantle the stability of Tripura and as well as the whole North Eastern States. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar expressed this anxiety while visiting the 98 Bn Border Security Forces (BSF) BOP at Khantalang under Jampui Hill. At the same time CM also urged the concerned BSF jawans to act more actively to bring the situation under control.

Stressing on the completion of the pending wire fencing work soon at the bordering areas sought a report of the kidnap cases that occurred during the past 2 to 3 months here in Tripura. The BSF jawans should also keep a strict vigil along the Indo-Bangla bordering areas acting on joint operation, he said. ''A section of youths are being trained by militants inside Bangladesh with the help of ISI”, added Sarkar.

However the Chief Minister also appealed the BSF jawans to keep a strong eye to avoid any incident like the incident of 17th November. Director General of Police K. Nagraj was accompanied by DIG of BSF, Khatrajoy Reang, District Magistrate of Kanchanpur during the visit. The Chief Minister also enquired the BSF jawans about the fencing in the border areas and the problems faced while fencing. BSF 98 Bn commandant Sanjib Joshi informed still 12km area under Khantalang is still remained unfenced and no fund was received from the government to complete the fencing task during last one and half years.

Besides, Sarkar urged the BSF jawans to bring the problems instead of the Union Home Affairs Department. If, needed, Chief Minister will meet the Union Home Minister. Apart from that drinking water problems and cooperation with the security forces were discussed in the meeting.

Earlier, Chief Minister after inaugurating the BOP at Ghosh Khamar Para in South Tripura told that the ISI has been supporting anti-India activities by pushing more Bangladeshi migrants into the region, influencing ethnic Muslims towards fundamentalism and directing the North-East insurgent groups to keep the cauldron of terrorism boiling. However, Sarkar claimed that the insurgency problem in Tripura was on the decline, with several NLFT and ATTF cadres eschewing the path of violence. ''We have developed a holistic approach to this problem (insurgency). We have provided development in practical term and 50 per cent of the government funds are meant for development,'' he said.

It is mentionable that, a total of 64 Border out Post (BOP) are present in the state. Out of the 64 Border out Post (BOP) 22 BOP are in operation at present. The remaining 42 BOP will become operational soon. Four Indian northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam share a 1,880-km border with Bangladesh. The mountainous terrain, dense forests and other hindrances make the unfenced borders porous and vulnerable, enabling illegal immigrants and intruders cross over without any hurdle. India is erecting a fence and putting up floodlights along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram to check trans-border movement of militants, and to check border crimes.
