AGARTALA, Jan 12 (TIWN): Without making any alternative arrangements, hawkers are mercilessly evicted in Agartala which has triggered fears, tension among the hawkers. Amid this pandemic situation, when hawkers are unable to go in protest, cunningly, the AMC has taken this eviction decision, so that people can not raise their voices. Talking to the media, the hawkers today broke down into tears as this has been their only means of livelihood. A vendor said, “The Govt is unable to give us livelihood. Anyhow we are surviving with this profession and now they are so inhuman that taking away our products, our stalls. Tensions have gripped us. Let us die on-road as without earning we will die anyway with our families”.
The hawkers, amid fears, were sitting with their stalls even after warning from AMC to vacate the area. But they were seated at a side, no customer was reaching to them. Fear of new rule and fear of livelihood both have gripped the poor vendors with uncertain futures.
The question raises if in the name of SMART City the Govt can evict the vendors, why can’t it make Smart-stalls for the poor ?”
Since the Municipal election victory, BJP Govt has been evicting many vendors across Tripura, which has generated mass resentment, heavy depression among the poor.
