AGARTALA, Jan 11 (TIWN): The yoga and gym center which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Biplab Deb now being turned into a haunted house. However, officials from the South District Youth Welfare and Sports Department are blaming the non-recruitment behind the situation.

The gym is at North Sarasima under Rishyamukh Assembly constituency. A two-story building of Yoga and Gym Center was constructed under the same roof at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh 50 thousand and Rs. 20 lakh 19 thousand 26 has been spent on the construction of a multi gym center. The Yoga and Gym Center was inaugurated on February 11, 2021. But as the years go by, there are no trainers to run this yoga and gym center, and even no people to open and close the center.

The state sports department is indifferent to the hiring of staff at the center. Although the yoga and gym center was built for athletes at a cost of lakhs of rupees, many are of the opinion that it is turning into a haunted house due to lack of willingness to hire people to manage it.

The center is under the Southern District Sports Department. As the center is under the jurisdiction of the South District Sports Department, the District Sports Officer assigned a Group D staff from this department to open and close the center. But once the gym center is opened at 8 am it has to be closed by 9 am, as the group D worker has to go to the district sports office at 10 am. This is because the Group D staff is not a staff member employed at the Yoga and Gym Center and was only verbally assigned by the District Sports Department.
