Journalist attacked by BJP goon at Kailasahar: Hospitalised

AGARTALA, JAN 4 (TIWN): Once again, one journalist was publicly attacked while performing his professional duties. The incident took place at Kailashahar Solidarity Fair on Monday.
Reportedly, a ten-day solidarity fair has started in the Padmerpar area of Kailasahar from last 28th December. On the 7th day of the fair i.e. on Monday Debashish Dutta, a journalist of a local news channel in Kailasahar and an active member of the Kailasahar Press Club, was covering the news when he was attacked by a person identified as Surajit Paul. The man started beating the journalist centering a little argument. Many people were present at the fair at that time and everyone was shocked.
When people started gathering, the miscreant ran away leaving his bike at the fairground. His friend who is a Health department staff was also in an intoxicated situation, alleged the eyes witnesses.
Following the incident, journalist Debashish Dutt filed a written case against Surjit Pal at Kailasahar police station on Tuesday afternoon. It came to know that Surjit Pal is an active BJP worker. Even during the fight also, he claimed himself as close to Chapla Debray, the chairperson of Kailasahar Municipality. Attacks on journalists, media persons are nothing new in the BJP era.
