OTPC PLANT/PALATANA, December 26 (TIWN): With a sudden trip in OTPCs 726.6MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine(CCGT) Thermal Power Plant at Palatana state has suffered from heavy power crisis since Friday morning to late midnight. An OTPC official told TIWN on Friday night," Due to heavy fog falling from Thursday night , the plant tripped early on Friday morning. After cooling down throughout the day the technicians and engineers succeeded to start the plant in the evening. But to have full load generation(363mw) it may take another three or four hours ( midnight)." The official also said that if heavy fog covers the sky like Thursday, none can guarantee that there won't be another trip .

As a result of this sudden shutdown the entire state has suffered through out Friday mid night. Power cuts occurred more than four to five times at different places. From Dharmanagar to Sabroom the impact was even greater as the even in approached. But from 20.00HRS the situation slightly improved. According to the latest updates ( at 21.52HRS) actual generation from OTPCs Unit-I was 71.9mw with a deviation of 20.3 mw. Out of this actual generation 51.6mw was being supplied to North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre(NERLDC).

Speaking to TIWN on this issue Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited(TSECL) CMD Shyamal Kumar Roy over phone on Friday night ," Due to scarcity of supply from Palatana we have been suffering since morning. But the most important thing is that power generation resumed in OTPC Unit-I. By Saturday morning power situation will be normal."
