Agartala, Dec 25 (TIWN): Despite the freezing weather, Christmas is being celebrated across the state with enthusiasm and fervor on the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ. As part of worldwide celebration, Christian and non-Christian people are celebrating the Christmas all over the state. Almost all the churches are embellished with colorful lights and charming Christmas stars.Celebration of Christmas was started with the Midnight mass which was celebrated in all the churches in Tripura and It was accompanied by prayers and singing of carols, Christmas cakes and cookies and other special frailties in full swing which were shared with neighbors, friends and loved ones.

In addition, a vast number of people belong to Christian community thronged at Shantir Rani Catholic Church in Mariamnagar, Bishop House Church at Durjoynagar and Don Bosco Church since morning to offer prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ with the theme 'Jesus Christ savior of the world'. A special prayer was also offered for those who lost their lives in the militant attack and massacre in the neighboring Assam state and in Peshwar of Pakistan. Besides, the presence of Bangladesh nationals in the churches to celebrate the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ is also remained noticeable.

Merriment of Christmas has a long history and believed to bring goodwill. Christmas is a very special occasion for children because they fantasize Santa Claus traveling a long journey carrying fancy gifts for them. Delicious cuisines and traditional dishes such as turkey, fruit cake, roasted potatoes, fudges and more are an integral part of this celebration. The Christmas tree, known as Yule tree, has a distinctive significance in this celebration. The Christmas tree is adorned with beautifully wrapped gifts, ribbons and attractive items to make the occasion more pleasant.
