AGARTALA, Oct 20 (TIWN): Tripura has celebrated the auspicious occasion of Laxmi Puja from house to house.
Laxmi Puja is performed in almost all the Bengali Hindu households.
According to the Bengali calendar, Devi Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity is worshipped on a full moon day of autumn, more precisely in the month of ‘Ashwin’.
Lakshmi is the goddess of light, beauty, good fortune and wealth. While Laxmi is generally worshiped to achieve success, she does not reside long with anyone who is lazy or desires her only as wealth.
Just after the celebration of the most awaited festival Durga Puja gets over, people gears up for the celebration of the Laxmi Puja.
Traders were observed with the idols of Goddess Laxmi in every corner of the capital. Besides, shopkeepers display colourful garlands and decorative items for the celebration.
Children as well as elders were witnessed buying firecrackers and colourful lights to decorate their houses.
The puja is carried out ceremoniously at every house, often collectively among neighbours and relatives, as people gather to pray for the goddess' blessings.
The rituals are usually done in the evening; the rituals for the occasion are often performed by hired priests or sometimes even by the housewives themselves.
