AGARTALA / DHARAMANAGAR, Sep 2 (TIWN): In the name of Durga puja, Clubs in Tripura started begging money from people in mafia style and 2 persons were beaten up after refusing to give Durga puja donations.

In a free nation, it should be a person's choice whether to give Puja donation or not but due to lack of strict rules, everyone living in this state is bound to pay for Durga puja and how the funds are being spent by the Clubs, neither the Govt nor the Income tax Dept takes any count.

2 vehicle drivers were beaten up at Dharmanagar after they refused to give donations for Durga puja. It has been alleged that lakhs of amounts were sought from them.

Dharmanagar Police even after getting complaints did not take any action. The vehicle of the victims had been seized by the club members illegally but police did not take any action to rescue the vehicle.

Durga puja which was once pride of Bengalis, now has turned into a Dark-cultural programme due to forceful Donation collection traditions in town areas and to waste public money in Alcohol parties and other unnecessary expenditures in the name of God.

However, in rural societies, still Durga puja has significance where in temples or in low budgets maximum pujas are organized.
