AGARTALA, July 24 (TIWN): Crippled road with zero maintenance over a period of years increases people's misery across the state. One such condition came to light after the villagers under Chandipur block of Birchandra pur area complained about the pathetic road condition of their locality.

Reportedly, the only connecting road of Uttar Nagar, Ward No. 2 of BC Nagar Gram Panchayat area under Chandipur block has been in dilapidated condition for the last three years. The locals informed the Panchayat and the Flood Control Department more than once but no action was taken. The Panchayat authority has said that the road will be repaired by the Flood Control Department as it is a dam along the Manu river. This road becomes completely unsuitable in the monsoon season even if it can be used in any way during the dry season. The biggest problem is that no car can enter the area for medical treatment, and even if it does, it gets stuck on the muddy road.

When the locals resorted to siege of the panchayat or road blockade to solve the problem in different areas, the residents of North Durgapur area repaired the roads themselves with an exceptional mindset as the brick kiln owner in the surrounding area helped them. However, the locals have informed that if the matter is under the control of the flood control department, then the panchayat should take strong steps to resolve the issue as they are also residents of this panchayat. If immediate action is not taken, they will sit in agitation at the panchayat or flood control department.

Locals had blocked the road three years ago to get the road repaired, but locals at them time too locals were falsely assured by the sub-divisional authority and flood control department officials of resolving the issue. Even after three years, the right steps have not been taken. When the locals tried to talk to Deepak Pal, an elected panchayat member of the ward, about the problem, he yelled instead of showing any interest of solving the issue, alleged the locals.

The locals demanded immediate restoration of the village roads to reduce their daily sufferings.
