AGARTALA, December 16 (TIWN): All Bank Officers’ Movement under the banner of AIBOC/AIBOA Tripura state chapter organized a candle light rally regarding various demands, here this evening.
Speaking to TIWN, leaders of state chapter said that we are opposing banking sector reforms. This is not for bank employees alone, but for the sake of the country.
The leaders further said that many private sector banks in our country have collapsed in the past due to mismanagement and cheating the people. Hence public sector banks should not be privatized. Rather they should be further strengthened and expanded. Given the bad track record of the private banks in our country, AIBOC also demands that all private Banks should be nationalized and brought under public sector banking.
Banking services were accessible to the commoners only because of public sector banks, which were also ensuring credit flow to sectors such as agriculture, rural development, women empowerment and hence, they should instead be strengthened, the leaders said.
Everyone is aware that employees and officers in the banking sector are doing their best to serve the customers and implement various schemes of the government despite innumerable hardships and difficulties. Yet, the genuine demand for adequate wage revision is being delayed and denied, the leaders mentioned.
Even though we have shown our willingness to adopt a flexible approach in order to finalize the settlement expeditiously, the same is not being reciprocated by the IBA. Thus, once again, we have been pushed to the path of agitation and struggle, the leaders added.
