AGARTALA, May 26 (TIWN): The rickshaw drivers in Agartala have alleged that due to a Bank's pressure, a worker has died recently and the E-Rickshaw drivers are suffering due to continuous pressure given by the Banks to clear instalment money amid Covid curfew. Though state govt was requested multiple times by the E-Rickshaw drivers to intervene in this process of forceful instalment collection amid Covid-19 but so far no response came from Tripura Govt, rather curfew has been extended without any additional relief for the bank-loan purposes. The E-Rickshaw workers placed 6 demands before the West District Magistrate including Govt's intervention to stop the interest imposition by the Banks amid Covid-19 crisis.Yesterday, once again the E-Rickshaw drivers held a protest and told the Govt if it has any plan for further lockdown / curfew, then it must think of alternatives about the poor sections of people. Also, 2020 Covid 1st Wave's promised financial help was not given to the workers. Then more organizations which are BJP backed held press meet with same demands but no development came so far in this regard.
The Bank related problem is not of only the E-Rickshaw drivers but a major section of poor people are suffering due to similar causes.
