AGARTALA, May 19 (TIWN): Shortage of water drinking water amid scorching summer reported in Pal Colony area under Kanchanmala Gram Panchayat in Dukli RD block.

Talking to local villagers it is known the local people have been suffering from shortage of drinking water and power transmitter problems for the past two years.

Meanwhile, Ashis Nandi, the senior manager of Sekerkot Bidyut office, told the locals that they would have to pay Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 to him to save the power transmitter in their area.

After a long wait, the people residing there broke their patience, and today the local women of Pal Colony surrounded the Kanchanmala Gram Panchayat and staged a serious protest demanding the installation of a drinking water pump and electric transmitters in their area.

However, surprisingly when the agitating women informed the village head, Pradeep Kumar Majumder, about their problems, Pradeep mentioned that he cannot do anything about it. Not only that, but he also said that if necessary, the women can remove Pradeep from his post.

While the panchayat members, including the panchayat head, asked the senior manager Ashish Nandi to come to the panchayat, Ashish made it clear that he would not be able to come neither did he feel to receive the call of the locals who tried to reach him for this matter.

At the end, the DGM of the power department, Kanchanmala, rushed to the gram panchayat and assured the agitating locals that efforts would be made soon to solve their problems.
