COVID-19 Second Wave : Night Curfews Imposed from Today

AGARTALA, April 22 (TIWN): Amid COVID-19 Second Wave led crisis, a major section of people are yet in lethargy to wear masks or maintain social distancing. On Thursday, the administration held a massive enforcement drive in the capital city Agartala alerting the public about the situation of nationwide health crisis. However today on day 1 when restrictions were officially imposed against gatherings, police instead of forcing masses to wear masks in exchange of penalties, were witnessed to aware masses and distribute masks. From today in Agartala, night curfew will also be imposed in the Municipal areas. Tripura right now has 600 active cases as per the website of COVID in the state. Tripura recorded a death toll of COVID-19 from 2020 total 391. The State Govt now with the second wave has though imposed restrictions but even till yesterday night, various fairs, gatherings, religious functions were found full of gatherings. Since April 15, India has continued to report over 2 lakh new Covid-19 cases on a daily basis.

There were 2,95,041 new cases on Wednesday, 2,59,170 cases on April 20, 2,73,510 on April 19, 2,61,500 on April 18, 2,34,692 on April 17, 2,17,353 on April 16 and 2,00,739 on April 15.   Meanwhile, 2,104 additional people died due to the virus, which took the total death toll to 1,84,657.    This is the second consecutive day that the country has registered over 2,000 deaths in a single-day. 

On Wednesday, 2,023 deaths were reported, which was the highest single-day spike so far.    With the fresh Covid-19 cases, the country's active caseload stands at 2,29,142.   A total of 1,78,841 infected people recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 1,34,54,880.

India also reported 2,104 more deaths due to the virus with maximum deaths being reported from Maharashtra at 568, followed by Delhi at 249. So far, 1,84,657 Covid patients have succumbed to the infection across the country.  With fresh Covid-19 cases, the country's active caseload stands at 22,91,428, while total recoveries have increased to 1,34,54,880, the Union health ministry said on Thursday.
