AGARTALA, March 3 (TIWN): After 16 days of struggle Belonia Vidyapith HS School student Jhuma Dey has passed away in a private hospital in Kolkata.
The class-11 student had received severe burn injuries after fire caught her dress in Saraswati puja pandal at Belonia Vidyapith HS School on 16th February.
Like all schools, Belonia Vidyapith HS School also organized Saraswati puja on 16th February. All students were together, celebrating, taking selfies but suddenly they saw this girl was running and fire had gripped her. The victim Jhum Dey (Class-11 student) was distributing "prasad" among her friends after the puja was over. From the earthen lamp, suddenly fire caught in her saree.
Teachers, students rushed her to the hospital. She has been referred to GB hospital for better treatment, but her condition is critical. Then she was taken to Kolkata for better treatment and then she was brought back due to crisis of moneys and also due to lack of cooperation in the hospital and Govt side. Then State Govt took initiative to send her to a private hospital for treatment but after 16 days, the girl has died.
