TELIAMURA, Dec 29 (TIWN): Several houses were hit by wild elephants in Ward No. 6 of Laxmipur Gram Panchayat under Teliamura Sub-Divisional Forest Department.
Wild elephant violence has been going on in different villages of these areas for a long time. A group of baby wild elephants went on a rampage in the village all night yesterday.
Two houses were destroyed by the herd. Despite repeated calls to the forest department, the forest officials didn’t come to the spot.
Locals alleged that a few days ago, there was an argument between the forest department and two BJP leaders, Prantosh Sarkar and Shyamal Sarkar due to which the forest department denied visiting the spot.
The forest workers said that if the ruling party leaders in the area does not talk to the forest department, the workers will not come to the area.
The people of Ward No. 6 are in a deep panic over this and the affected families demanded compensation for the damage.
Moreover, there is no guarantee that the locals will be able to sleep without fear tonight. Needless to say, the village will suffer huge losses if the forest officials do not tackle the situation.
