AGARTALA, Nov 24 (TIWN): After 9 days of continuous strike in Kanchanpur, over Bru settlement issue 'Joint Movement Committee' has finally called off strike after State Government representative team held discussion with them on yesterday. Offices and markets all started functioning from today. Although CM Biplab Deb now has called for peace, but public has raised question over Home Dept's failure along his deep silence and disappearance during violence days. BJP's "Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura" slogan could not match in handling issues as for long 9 days, Kanchanpur was reeling under strike but Govt did not held any proper discussion. However, on Day 8th (yesterday) finally two meetings were held and the last meeting which reportedly ended at around 11 pm was successful and the 'Joint Movement' said that they were succeeded in negotiating with the Govt over Bru settlement. The Joint Movement committee is comprised of local two communities under the organizations of 'Mizo Convention' and 'Nagarik Suraksha Mancha' who have negotiating over Mizoram origin Bru resettlement issue. They aligned for this Joint Movement on the issue of Bru settlement.

The 'Joint Movement Committee' first protested against Govt's one side decision of resettling the Brus in Kanchanpur without talking to the local regional leaders and secondly, they demanded not much numbers of Bru families would be given rehabilitation in the Kanchanpur but Brus can be rehabilitated across Tripura.

They also demanded equal compensation from the State Govt for the Mizo and the Bengali families who were de-sheltered in previous ethnic tensions since 1997. But the State Govt never talked to the committee which led them to shutdown Kanchanpur and finally on Day 8 (on yesterday), Govt side representatives have met the Joint Movement Committee and held negotiate talks with them. During these days of tension, two persons lost lives in violence. The first person lost life in police firing and one Fire Brigade staff Biswajit Debbarma was killed mercilessly by violent mob in Panisagar subdivision's Rasta-Roko movement on the same issue. "Joint Movement Committee" has called both the incidents unfortunate, appealed public for peace.
